Georgia whitewater - Yellow River, Gwinnett County Gwinnett county, Arnold Road to Annistown Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     10 miles   The beautiful scenery of Gwinnett County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This section of Yellow River in Georgia is 10 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. If you're coming from Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging     is available very near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Arnold Road to Annistown Bridge section is one of them. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Georgia is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. The campgrounds here at Yellow River are pretty good. Briefly about the general area: Yellow River commonly gets much precipitation; through the month of March you get the most rain around here, and the driest month is October. High temperatures at Yellow River   all through the warm months are in the 80's. Summer night lows plunge down to the 60's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 40's; night lows through the wintertime for Yellow River tend to be in the 20's. Britt Shoals is a pleasant site to visit near Yellow River, and you should absolutely visit McDaniels Bluff while you're here.
