The starting point is not too far from Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This section of Yellow River is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Annistown Bridge to Highway 124 stretch is one of them. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Georgia is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're
visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The scenic beauty of Gwinnett/Dekalb County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip.
A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are many good hotels to choose from, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: Yellow River gets a large amount of water; the wettest month of the year is generally March, that's the one that rains the most while October is regularly the driest month. For the period of the summertime months at Yellow River temperatures are generally in the
80's, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. For the period of the winter highs are ordinarily in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Yellow River are in the 20's. Horseshoe Bend is an out of the ordinary thing to catch a glimpse of since you're here at Yellow River.
