The Waimea Canyon stretch of Waimea in Hawaii is -blank- miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV(V) section. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This is the only paddling section along Waimea. There's camping available near Waimea.

Briefly about the general area:
Waimea mostly gets much rain; September is the wettest month with most
    rain; May on the other hand is the driest. Summer at Waimea comes with high temperatures in the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 70's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 80's, and night lows at Waimea during the wintertime generally descend into the 70's.
