Idaho whitewater - Big Creek, Salmon River Mountains, Valley County

Valley county, Big Creek Airstrip to Cache Bar section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III-IV     54 miles
This section of Big Creek in Idaho is 54 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The nature scenery of Valley County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Now this is a pretty long section, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. The Salmon River Mountains scenery is
wonderful. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are not so many other good spots for that around here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have
reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Big Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Big Creek Airstrip to Cache Bar stretch is the only one. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come.
