The wonderful Idaho scenery and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. The Big Creek Airstrip to Cache Bar section is the only paddling section along Big Creek. The beautiful Salmon River Mountains scenery is an added bonus. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. A stretch of this length does require some preparations,     perfect for a real wilderness adventure. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other spots. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch of Big Creek is 54 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. Briefly about the general area: From a rain point of view Big Creek is a quite common place; most of the snow falls during January, and the driest of the months is July. Yeah, come up here to the Salmon River Mountains for a tremendous time. There's fine hiking along the Bear Trap Saddle Trail. Nearby Blackburn   Saddle is a splendid place to go if you're at Big Creek, and tremendous hiking is available along the Coxey Creek Trail. At Big Creek during the summer months highs are in the 70's with night lows in the 30's. High temperatures throughout the wintertime are normally in the 20's, and overnight lows at Big Creek through the wintertime generally plunge into the 0's.
