The beautiful scenery of Idaho and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other spots. here at Big Sand Creek are pretty good. This is the only paddling section along Big Sand Creek. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The beautiful
| Bitterroot Range scenery is an added bonus. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. This section of Big Sand Creek in Idaho County is 4 miles long and has been rated as a class V section by American Whitewater.
Briefly about the general area:
Big Sand Creek gets a normal amount of rain; January is when you get the most snow here; July on the other hand is the driest. Through the days of summer at Big Sand Creek highs are generally in the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's; nighttime lows at Big Sand Creek during the winter usually sink into the 10's.
