Idaho whitewater - Blackfoot River, Caribou/ Bingham County

Caribou/ Bingham county, Blackfoot Dam to Cutthroat Creek Campground section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III     10 miles

The upper Blackfoot River, between the Monsanto Haul Road and the flats before the reservoir is not accessible by boat except maybe a kayak in May-July. It flows through a rough lava rock canyon. I've seen a couple of people with small boats attempt this stretch and it is not pretty. http://idahoflyfishing.blogspot.com Says Mark

The wonderful Idaho scenery and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The put-in location is a short drive from Idaho Falls, as you can see on the road map further down. The Blackfoot Dam
to Cutthroat Creek Campground section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Idaho tend to be more challenging
than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The Blackfoot Dam to Cutthroat Creek Campground section of Blackfoot River in Idaho is 10 miles long and is a class III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no
problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
