The Hanging Rock to Cougar Creek Trailhead section is one of a few paddling sections in this river     system. This stretch of Clearwater River - South Fork in Idaho County is 7.4 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. The wild scenery of the Clearwater Mountains is great.
