This section of Deadwood River is 10 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Idaho is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The natural beauty of Idaho and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the
trip here worthwhile. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. When you're paddling down a Salmon River Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Getting some good exercise and a chance to
spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the End of Road to South Fork Payette River stretch is one of them. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The campgrounds here at Deadwood River are pretty good.
Briefly about the general area: At Deadwood River through the summer highs are in the 90's; the nighttime is a little chillier of course, generally in the 40's. All through the winter the highs are
usually in the 30's while Deadwood River nighttime low temperatures throughout the wintertime are in the 10's. Oxbow Bend is something you shouldn't miss since you're here at Deadwood River. Deadwood River is usually a relatively arid location; January is the month that gets the most snow, and the driest month is July.
