Idaho whitewater - Henrys Fork, Fremont/ Madison County
Fremont/ Madison
county,
Lower Mesa Falls to Warm River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-II+(V) 4 miles
Great little slice of wilderness with a wicked put-in below lower mesa falls and just enough boat eating whitewater to weed out most floaters. I see parts of boats wrapped around rocks every year. Not for beginners. Fishing can be good and watch for bears, moose and eagles. An easier float starts part of the way down, accessed by the old Bear Gulch ski resort road, if it's open. Says Larry Tullis
The beautiful scenery of Idaho and the water flowing gracefully down Henrys Fork have people coming here. The Lower Mesa Falls to Warm River section
of Henrys Fork is 4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II+(V) section. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers.
There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Lower Mesa Falls to Warm River stretch is just one of many. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Idaho are often more challenging than in other states, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. If you're coming from Rexburg it's not a long drive at all to
the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
