  This section of Kootenai in Idaho is 14 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II section. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or
    both, doesn't matter, in this general area you won't find many other paddling places. The wonderful Idaho scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead
and pack your camping stuff. There are no other sections to paddle along Kootenai than the Leonia to pipeline Close to Bonners Ferry section. There's camping available near Kootenai.

If the weather is great here at Kootenai, you can go for a hike along the Katka Peak Trail, and Katka Pass is also a fine site to discover. Throughout the warm months, highs commonly are in the 80's at Kootenai. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 40's. lows in the 20's for Kootenai.
While you're here at Kootenai you can take a hike along the Dobson Creek Trail. Kootenai is pretty arid typically; the month of November is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest of the months is July.
