  The average Idaho whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking,
    either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. The beauty of the Bitterroot Range is a great plus for this river. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. The Papoose Creek to Indian Grave Creek stretch of Lochsa River
is 20 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. The beautiful scenery of Idaho County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.

Briefly about the general area:
During the summertime months, highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Lochsa River while nighttime lows are mostly in the 40's. Throughout the wintertime highs
 
are usually in the 30's, and night lows in the 10's for Lochsa River. Near Lochsa River you locate the Colgate Licks Nature National Recreation Trail which is a good hiking trail.
The yearly rainfall here at Lochsa River is about average; the month of January is the wettest with most of the snow; the driest month of the year is July.
