This stretch of Lochsa River in Idaho County is 13 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV section of whitewater. The scenic beauty of Idaho County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The campgrounds here at Lochsa River are pretty good. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this
state are not easy. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.
The wild scenery of the Clearwater Mountains is great. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too.
Briefly about the general area: Summer at Lochsa River arrives with high temperatures in the 80's with overnight lows in the 50's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 30's; overnight lows at Lochsa River during the wintertime typically dip into the 20's. Lochsa River is a good place
of normal precipitation; throughout the month of January you get the most snow around here while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Don't leave Lochsa River without first paying a visit to Stanley Hot Springs.
