This stretch of Lochsa River in Idaho is 9 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Idaho is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Wilderness Gateway bridge to Split Creek Pack Bridge section is one of them. The beauty of the
Clearwater Mountains is a great plus for this river. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. The nature scenery of Idaho County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whether
you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: A tour to Shoestring Falls will fill your soul with great feelings; some interesting geology is available here, Old Man Point is right here. For the period of the months of summer highs here at Lochsa River reach the 80's, and the nighttime is slightly
cooler of course, frequently in the 40's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's; overnight lows during the winter for Lochsa River tend to be in the 10's. If you want a nice time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Clearwater Mountains. There is a good hiking trail
