Idaho whitewater - Lolo Creek, Clearwater Mountains, Idaho/ Clearwater County Idaho/ Clearwater county, Cottonwood Flats to Clearwater River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III-IV     15 miles   I did this trip in about 6 hours.  Lots of get and drag over huge boulders.  Water level was moderate for a wet year.  Nice if you have all day and get an early start.  I screwed up and started paddling at 11:00 AM, didn't get to the haul out until dark... Oooops... Says Grant Grove The Cottonwood Flats to Clearwater River section of Lolo Creek is 15 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. The scenic beauty of Idaho and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. Not     too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The beautiful Clearwater Mountains scenery is an added bonus. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your sleeping bag. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Idaho is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back   for more. Briefly about the general area: ; January is the wettest month with most snow while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. For the duration of the days of summer, highs commonly are in the 80's at Lolo Creek, and the night is somewhat chillier of course, mostly in the 40's. Daytime highs all through the winter are in the 30's while Lolo Creek night low temperatures all through the winter are in the 10's.
