The Trapper Flat to Birch Creek section of Panther Creek is 8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V section. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Trapper Flat to Birch Creek stretch is one of them. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking,
either way this is an area with not too many other places for that. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. The natural beauty of Idaho and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The wild scenery
of the Salmon River Mountains is great. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: Have a delightful hiking adventure along the Birch Creek Trail, and if you yearn for a little side trip, try Fritzer Gulch. Summertime highs at Panther Creek generally tend to be in the 80's while night lows are mostly in the 40's. All through the winter highs
are in the 20's, and overnight lows at Panther Creek during the wintertime frequently drop into the 0's. Panther Creek is mostly a relatively dehydrated place; June is the month that gets the most rain; the driest of the months is February. All year is a fine time in the Salmon
River Mountains if you love the outdoors. Going for a hike along the Hot Springs Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this area.
