The scenic beauty of Valley County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Idaho is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. The Upper Payette Lake to Big Payette Lake stretch of Payette River - North Fork in Idaho is 10.4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-IV section. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack
your camping stuff too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find
lots of paddling rivers. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Upper Payette Lake to Big Payette Lake section is one of them. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more.
