The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Idaho are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. This stretch of Portneuf River in Bannock County is 15.6 miles long and is a class I-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large     number of other places. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. There are many good hotels to choose from, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. If you're coming from Pocatello it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
