This section of Portneuf River is 6.1 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-V section. If you're coming from Pocatello it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. If     you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The Lava Hot Springs to PVC diversion section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. At Portneuf River during   the months of summer highs are in the 80's, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 50's.
