The Stanley to Old Sunbeam Dam stretch of Salmon River is 13 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Idaho and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. The Salmon River Mountains scenery is wonderful. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your
sleeping bag too. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit
to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so better not forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Salmon River during the warm days of summer are in the 70's, and throughout the night it cools down to the 30's. Highs during the winter are frequently in the 20's while Salmon River nighttime low temperatures during the winter are in
the-10's. Salmon River is usually a rather dehydrated location; December is the month that gets the most snow; July on the other hand is the driest. If you're here at Salmon River, checking out Mormon Bend is a must.
