The Stanley to Old Sunbeam Dam section of Salmon River is 13 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The natural beauty of Idaho and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. time in nature will have you coming back for more. When you're paddling down a Salmon River Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking
in this general area you won't find many other paddling rivers. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Stanley to Old Sunbeam Dam section is just one of them.

The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 20's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Salmon River descend into the-10's.
