This section of Salmon River in Idaho is 13 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The beauty of the Salmon River Mountains is a great plus for this river. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your camping stuff too. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will
have you coming back for more. The campgrounds here at Salmon River are pretty good. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking,
either way there are not so many other good places for that around here. The natural beauty of Idaho and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Stanley to Old Sunbeam Dam section is just one of many.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the warm days of summer at Salmon River highs are usually in the 70's with overnight lows in the 30's. For the period of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 20's, and night lows at Salmon River throughout
the winter frequently sink into the-10's. Mormon Bend is an attention-grabbing location to stop at while at Salmon River. It is very dried up here at Salmon River regularly; the month with most of the snow is December, and the driest of the months is July.
