The beautiful scenery of Idaho and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. The average Idaho whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The North Fork to Middle Fork stretch of Salmon River in Lemhi County is 39 miles long and is a class III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one,
but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The campgrounds here at Salmon River are pretty good. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the North Fork to Middle Fork section is one of them. You might be into whitewater rafting
or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other rivers. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. The river winds through the Bitterroot Range and you get great scenery. A section like this is is of course not run in a single day, perfect for a real wilderness adventure.
Briefly about the general area: A river like this is too good to miss. Salmon River is pretty dried out generally; the wettest month of the year is usually June, that's the one that rains the
most, and February meanwhile is the driest month. Having a good time in the Bitterroot Range is painless. If you desire a little side visit, try Cohen Gulch; going for a hike along the Copper Mountain Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood. A short
spree to Pine Creek Rapids is always worthwhile, and if the weather is good, you can go for a hike along the Sheepeater Trail. During the warm months, highs typically are in the 80's at Salmon River while overnight lows are ordinarily in the 40's. Through the winter highs are in the 20's, and night lows in the 0's for Salmon River.
