county,
North Fork to Middle Fork section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III 39 miles
The North Fork to Middle Fork stretch of Salmon River is 39 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III section of whitewater. The nature scenery of Idaho and the cool fresh water beats anything. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Idaho are often more challenging than in other states, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your
car. The Bitterroot Range scenery is wonderful. Now this is a pretty long section, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other spots. The North Fork to Middle Fork section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system.

For the period of the winter the highs are mostly in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Salmon River. And if that's
not enough there's plenty more enjoyable stuff to do in the Bitterroot Range. Don't leave Salmon River without first going for a hike along the Copper Mountain Trail; Pine Creek Rapids is a good local attraction. Around Salmon River you don’t get a lot of rainfall; most of the
