The Corn Creek to Vinegar Creek stretch of Salmon River in Idaho County is 79 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. The natural beauty of Idaho County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you
make reservations in advance you're all set. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The Salmon River Mountains scenery is wonderful. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other places for that. The sections for whitewater
rafting and kayaking here in Idaho are often more challenging than in other states, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. Now this is a pretty long section, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear.
Briefly about the general area: Having a magnificent time in the Salmon River Mountains is easy. From a rain point of view Salmon River is a relatively common site; the month with most of the snow is January, and July is when it's the driest. Near Salmon River you hit upon the Three Blaze Trail
which is a delightful hiking trail, and going for a hike on the Chamberlain Trail is always a magnificent adventure. Throughout the long summer days at Salmon River highs are usually in the 70's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's typically in the 30's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Salmon River.
