The average Idaho whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. Whitewater paddling here in the Salmon River Mountains is a great experience. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. This stretch of Salmon River in Idaho is 79 miles long and is rated by American
Whitewater as a class III-IV section. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are a few other sections
in this river system that can be paddled as well. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good spots for that around here. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so better bring your camping gear along.
Briefly about the general area: Salmon River gets a common amount of yearly precipitation; of all the months in a year January is the one with the most snow while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Now, you may believe that's a load but there's even more exciting stuff
to do here in the Salmon River Mountains. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Salmon River; Three Blaze Trail is a great local trail, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Chamberlain Trail. For the duration of the warm months highs here at Salmon River reach the
70's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 30's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 20's with temperatures at Salmon River dipping down into the 0's during winter nights.
