The beautiful scenery of Idaho/ Lemhi County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. If you're a camper you     can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Vinegar Creek to Riggins stretch of Salmon River is 28 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater paddling here in the Clearwater Mountains is a great experience. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Vinegar Creek to Riggins section is one of them. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. Briefly about the general area: But wait, there's more amusing things to do in the Clearwater Mountains. Go for a hike on the Broken Leg Trail. At Salmon River you don’t see much rain; May is the month that gets the most rain; February meanwhile is the driest   month. Through the summer at Salmon River temperatures are ordinarily in the 80's while nighttime lows are typically in the 40's. All through the winter the highs are typically in the 30's with temperatures at Salmon River dipping down into the 20's throughout winter nights. Good hiking is available along the Lava Butte Trail, and Little Slate Creek Saddle is a delightful site to spend some time.
