The wonderful Idaho scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Salmon River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The White Bird to Snake River confluence section of Salmon River in Idaho is 50 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-IV section. The campgrounds here at Salmon River are pretty good. The beauty of the Wallowa Mountains is a great plus for this river. Now this is a pretty long section, so it looks like you will be camping out. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Idaho is often more
difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. This is the only paddling section along Salmon River. Since you're
on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: Salmon River gets very little rain; throughout May this area sees the most rain, and the driest of the months is July. Through the summertime here at Salmon River, high temperatures ordinarily reach the 80's while
nighttime lows are regularly in the 40's. During the wintertime highs are usually in the 30's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Salmon River plunge into the 20's. While staying at Salmon River you could always discover Chamberlain Gulch.
