The Poverty Flats Campground to East Fork of South Fork stretch of Salmon River - South Fork in Valley County is 16 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-V section of whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Valley County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The wild scenery of the Salmon
River Mountains is great. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Poverty Flats Campground to East Fork of South Fork section is one of many paddling
sections in this river system. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came.

winter at Salmon River - South Fork temperatures plunge to the 0's. Be careful coming to the Salmon River Mountains, you might not ever want to go back home again. Hiking along the Miners Peak Trail is nice fun. Salmon River - South Fork gets a typical amount of precipitation;
the month of January is the wettest with most of the snow, and July is when it's the driest. Going for a hike along the Eagle Rock Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region, and a nice site close by is Buckhorn Bar.
