  This stretch of Salmon River - Yankee Fork in Custer County is 26.8 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. The nature scenery of Custer County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Upper road end to Salmon River section is just one of them. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in
    Idaho are often more challenging than in other states, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river
if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. The Salmon River Mountains scenery is wonderful.
