The Upper road end to Salmon River stretch of Salmon River - Yankee Fork in Custer County is 26.8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V section. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a pretty small number of paddling places. The campgrounds here at Salmon River - Yankee Fork are pretty good. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. This
    river system is full of great paddling sections, the Upper road end to Salmon River section is just one of them. The river winds through the Salmon River Mountains and you get great scenery. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are sure
to keep you coming back for more. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
