The Headwaters to Salmon River stretch of Slate Creek in Idaho is 23.7 miles long and it is classified as a class II-V section by American Whitewater. The Headwaters to Salmon River section is the only paddling section along Slate Creek. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camping stuff too. The beautiful scenery of Idaho County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room
before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state
are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The wild scenery of the Clearwater Mountains is great.
Briefly about the general area: Not much rainfall falls here at Slate Creek; of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month. High temperatures at Slate Creek during the summer months are in the 80's
while nighttime lows are regularly in the 40's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's, and during the dark hours in the wintertime at Slate Creek temperatures descend to the 20's.
