The Headwaters to Salmon River stretch of Slate Creek in Idaho is 23.7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-V section. The wonderful Idaho County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Slate Creek will make you feel great. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The beauty of the Clearwater Mountains is a great plus     for this river. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Slate Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Headwaters to Salmon River section is the only one. Briefly about the general area: Slate Creek is pretty waterless ordinarily; the wettest month of the year is generally May, that's the one that rains the most while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Summertime at Slate Creek arrives with high temperatures   in the 80's with night lows in the 40's.
