The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. A section like this is is of course not run in a single day, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while
will have you coming back for more. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Whitewater paddling here in the Wallowa Mountains is a great experience. The beautiful scenery of Idaho and the playfulness
of the water have people coming here. This section of Snake River in Idaho is 32 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
Briefly about the general area: This is a great river. At Snake River during the days of summer highs are in the 90's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. For the period of the winter this place gets highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Snake River are in the 20's. Weinheimer Gulch
is right next door to Snake River and is a good place; there is a great hiking trail nearby called the Heavens Gate Trail. Snake River is frequently a quite dried up location; the wettest month of the year is commonly May, that's the one that rains the most, and July is the month
with the least moisture. Yep, outdoors exciting things truly is plentiful here in the Wallowa Mountains. Don't leave Snake River without first paying a visit to Sluice Creek Rapids It's always glorious to take a look at Bills Creek Rapids.
