The Salmon River to Lewiston section of Snake River in Idaho is 47 miles long and has been rated as a class II section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a short drive from Lewiston, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Whitewater rafting     and kayaking spots in Idaho are harder than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so it looks like you will be camping out. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good spots for that around here. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. Briefly about the general area: Captain John Rapids is a charming location to check out while you're at Snake River, and as expected, A visit to Sandal Gulch is always fun. For the period of the days of summer here at Snake River, high temperatures usually   reach the 80's. Summer night lows drop down to the 50's. For the duration of the winter highs are regularly in the 30's, and overnight lows at Snake River during the wintertime usually descend into the 20's. Not much rain falls here at Snake River; during May this area sees the most rain, and the driest of the months is July. A short visit to Captain John Rapids is always worthwhile.
