Nez Perce
county,
Salmon River to Lewiston section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II 47 miles
This section of Snake River is 47 miles long and is a class II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The starting point is not too far from Lewiston, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you've been whitewater rafting
and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The nature scenery of Idaho and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here
to paddle. The Salmon River to Lewiston stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so better bring your camping gear along. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: During the summer months here at Snake River, high temperatures commonly get into the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 50's. The

John Rapids if you're here at Snake River. Captain John Rapids is always fun to check out, and nearby Sandal Gulch is a pleasant place to go.
