The Salmon River to Lewiston section of Snake River is 47 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Idaho tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. The starting
point is not too far from Lewiston, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The natural beauty of Nez Perce County and the water flowing gracefully down Snake River attract people from near and far. Now this is a pretty long section,
so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good places for that around here.
Briefly about the general area: Put some time aside to spend at Captain John Rapids while you're here at Snake River; nearby you find Sandal Gulch which is a great place to go to. High temperatures at Snake River during the summer are in the 80's.
Once the sun is down it drops down to the 50's. Highs during the winter are usually in the 30's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Snake River. Captain John Rapids is always fun to check out. Snake River is a location that is rather waterless frequently; the wettest month of the year is mostly May, that's the one that rains the most, and July is when it's the driest.
