The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The Loop Creek to St. Joe Confluence section of St. Joe River - North Fork is 10 miles long and it is classified as a class III section by American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your
sleeping bag. The beautiful Bitterroot Range scenery is an added bonus. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The nature scenery of Idaho and the water flowing gracefully down St. Joe River - North Fork are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle.
Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come.
Briefly about the general area: From a rainfall point of view St. Joe River - North Fork is a pretty normal location; January is when you get the most snow here, and July on the other hand is the driest. If you feel like a little side
visit, try Jitney Gulch; do take a hike on the Nelson Peak Trail. Throughout the warmest time of the year at St. Joe River - North Fork highs are regularly in the 80's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's typically in the 40's. Daytime highs throughout the winter are
in the 30's, and after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at St. Joe River - North Fork descend into the 10's. If you want a splendid time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Bitterroot Range. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Kyle Creek Trail.
