The Turner Creek to Packsaddle Creek section of St. Joe River - Skookum Canyon is 4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then
no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The average Idaho whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so better not forget that many runs in this state are not easy. Great exercise and
just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. The river winds through the Bitterroot Range and you get great scenery. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Turner Creek to Packsaddle Creek stretch is just one of them.
