Says LRS The Bridge to Lusk Creek stretch of Bear Branch is 4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III section of whitewater. The put-in is not too far from Harrisburg, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The nature scenery of Pope County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Illinois are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're not from around here     don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other rivers. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. There are no other stretches to paddle along Bear Branch than the Bridge to Lusk Creek stretch. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area: Going for a hike on the River to River Trail is always a splendid adventure. A good deal of rain falls   at Bear Branch; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain, and January is the month with the least moisture. Throughout the summertime months at Bear Branch highs are usually in the 80's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's while Bear Branch overnight low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 10's.
