Says Matthew Capes If you're coming from Ottawa-Streator it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Illinois scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The N3179 Road     to IandM Canal section of Little Vermilion River in Illinois is 6.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II(III) section of whitewater. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are not so many other good rivers for that around here. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There are no other sections to paddle along Little Vermilion River than the N3179 Road to IandM Canal section. No shortage of good hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area: You'll meet a lot of people   from Ottawa-Streator here. Throughout the summertime months highs here at Little Vermilion River get into the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Little Vermilion River. From a rain point of view Little Vermilion River is a rather common spot; of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain; February is when it's the driest.
