Illinois whitewater - Lusk Creek, Pope County County Pope County county, Lusk Creek Canyon section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-III     4.5 miles   This section of Lusk Creek in Illinois is 4.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III section of whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Illinois and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Illinois is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are not so many other good rivers for     that around here. There are no other sections to paddle along Lusk Creek than the Lusk Creek Canyon section. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Harrisburg, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. Briefly about the general area: Summer at Lusk Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. Summer overnight lows sink down to the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Lusk Creek. Lusk Creek typically gets a large amount of precipitation; all through the month of March you get the most rain around here; January meanwhile is the driest month.
