The Lusk Creek Canyon section of Lusk Creek in Pope County County is 4.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The starting location is a short drive from Harrisburg, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. A good     workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The Lusk Creek Canyon stretch is the only paddling stretch along Lusk Creek. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other places for that. Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Lusk Creek during the months of summer are in the 80's; the night is quite colder of course, regularly in the 60's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 30's, and after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at   Lusk Creek sink into the 10's. A nice place next to Lusk Creek is Dog Hollow, and there is a perfect hiking trail close by called the River to River Trail. Lusk Creek mostly gets a great deal of rainfall; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain; January meanwhile is the driest month.
