Iowa whitewater - Cedar River, Linn County Linn county, Kepler State Park section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III     0.1 miles   I drove there from Colorado because i heard there was a whitewater park built here, but didn't find one. It looked like there could be a wave there at some point but no eddy service. Is it possible I went to the wrong place? I went to Palisades-Kepler state park, at the bottom of the hill at the river, it was a wide open flat river with a low head dam that had been partially removed with a small rapid in it but nothing i could really play on. Is there another one somewhere else in Iowa that is running right now? This section of Cedar River in Iowa is 0.1 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Iowa are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. This is a very short section so no need to bring snacks. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The scenic beauty of Iowa and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The Kepler State Park stretch is the only paddling   stretch along Cedar River. Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Cedar River ordinarily tend to be in the 80's. Summer night lows sink down to the 60's. Daytime highs all through the winter are in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Cedar River. Cedar River is a good place of typical rain; of all the months in a year June is the one with the most rain while February is ordinarily the driest month.
