Kepler State Park section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III 0.1 miles
I drove there from Colorado because i heard there was a whitewater park built here, but didn't find one. It looked like there could be a wave there at some point but no eddy service. Is it possible I went to the wrong place? I went to Palisades-Kepler state park, at the bottom of the hill at the river, it was a wide open flat river with a low head dam that had been partially removed with a small rapid in it but nothing i could really play on. Is there another one somewhere else in Iowa that is running right now? Says Cari M
The Kepler State
Park stretch of Cedar River is 0.1 miles long and has been rated as a class III section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a short drive from Cedar Rapids, as you can see on the road map further down. The scenic beauty of Iowa and the playfulness of the water have people
coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This is an extremely short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. Cedar River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Kepler State Park section is the only one. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state
are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are less demanding.
