I drove there from Colorado because i heard there was a whitewater park built here, but didn't find one. It looked like there could be a wave there at some point but no eddy service. Is it possible I went to the wrong place? I went to Palisades-Kepler state park, at the bottom of the hill at the river, it was a wide open flat river with a low head dam that had been partially removed with a small rapid in it but nothing i could really play on. Is there another one somewhere else in Iowa that is running right now? Says Cari M

from Cedar Rapids it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're not
from around here don't forget that rivers here are less demanding. The scenic beauty of Linn County and the water flowing gracefully down Cedar River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch of Cedar River in Iowa is 0.1 miles long and it is classified as a class III section by American Whitewater. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. There's camping available near Cedar River. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance
you're all set. Cedar River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Kepler State Park section is the only one.
Briefly about the general area: Cedar River gets a common amount of annual precipitation; of all the months in a year June is the one with the most rain;
February meanwhile is the driest month. For the duration of the summer months at Cedar River highs are generally in the 80's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 60's. Daytime highs all through the wintertime are in the 20's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Cedar River fall into the 10's.
