Iowa whitewater - Winnebago River, Cerro Gordo County Cerro Gordo county, East Park to Wren Avenue section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     10 miles   This section of Winnebago River is 10 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. The starting point is not too far from Mason City, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Winnebago River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the East Park to Wren Avenue section is the only one. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations     you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. Briefly about the general area: All through the summer, highs frequently are in the 80's at Winnebago River. Summer nighttime lows drop down to the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 20's, and overnight lows through the winter for Winnebago River tend to be in the 0's. Big Gully is a magnificent location to go to next to Winnebago River. Winnebago River gets a normal   amount of rainfall; the wettest month of the year is commonly June, that's the one that rains the most while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
