The starting point is not too far from Somerset, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Kentucky are easier than the national norm, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day
but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your sleeping bag. The beauty of the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great plus for this river. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance
because these hotels fill up quick. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The natural beauty of Kentucky and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. This stretch of Cumberland River - Big South Fork is 12 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too.

80's while overnight lows are regularly in the 60's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Cumberland River - Big South Fork are in the 20's. There's no way somebody can get bored here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains.
The high level of rainfall makes Cumberland River - Big South Fork a quite wet place; through the month of March you get the most rain around here, and October on the other hand is the driest.
