Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. The natural beauty of McCreary/Whitley County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The starting point is not too far from Somerset, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whether you're whitewater
rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting some good exercise and
just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. The wild scenery of the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is great. The campgrounds here at Cumberland River - Big South Fork are pretty good. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. The Station Camp to Lake Cumberland stretch of Cumberland River - Big South Fork in Kentucky is 12 miles long and it is classified as a class II section by American Whitewater. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that
can be paddled as well.
