The Cumberland to Harlan section of Cumberland River - Poor Fork in Harlan County is 23.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. The wonderful Harlan County scenery and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other spots. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the
river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. The wild scenery of the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is great. A bit of exercise and just being out on
the river for a while are great reasons to come. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. There are no other stretches to paddle along Cumberland River - Poor Fork than the Cumberland to Harlan stretch.
