  The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Middlesborough, as you can see on the road map further down. The scenic beauty of Harlan County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Cumberland to Harlan stretch of Cumberland River - Poor Fork is 23.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality
    time in nature will make you glad you came. There are some good hotels near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both,
doesn't matter, there are not so many other good spots for that around here. The wild scenery of the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is great. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Cumberland to Harlan section is one of them. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. There's camping available  
near Cumberland River - Poor Fork. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too.

Briefly about the general area:
A tour to Kingdom Come State Park when you're here at Cumberland River - Poor Fork is never a bad idea, and Clover Gap is in the vicinity, and is a magnificent location. If you want a magnificent time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. This is a popular spot for folks from Lejunior; if the weather is tremendous, you can go for a hike along the Daniel Boone Trail. Coming to this river is always a good idea.
