Kentucky whitewater - Harrod's Creek, Oldham/Jefferson County Oldham/Jefferson county, Kentucky 53 to Ohio River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     30 miles   Kayaked from 329 to 42 ... weather was great ... about 5 spots that you will need to get out and walk ... what an excellent paddle. Says Brendan The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Louisville, as you can see on the road map further down. The Kentucky 53 to Ohio River stretch of Harrod's Creek is 30 miles long and has been determined by American     Whitewater to be a class I-II section. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The nature scenery of Oldham/Jefferson County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. This is the only paddling section along Harrod's Creek. Now this is a pretty long section, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. Briefly about the general area: Harrod's Creek gets lots of water; July is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month is February. For the duration of the summer at Harrod's Creek highs are ordinarily in the 80's; all through   summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Harrod's Creek.
