Kentucky whitewater - Hickman Creek, Jessamine County Jessamine county, Brumfield Lane to 1268 Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II(III)     4 miles   I have been rideing this strectch of creek about 4 times a summer for the past six years. Woundn't call it rapids though, most of the time it is quite shallow, alot of packing your boat. Flood water is a differt story. It's quite dangerouse but it can be done, I was able to navigate 9 miles of the creek while flooding before I lost my kayak to the creek. Beautiful ride though, bring a fishing pole, lots of small fish! The wonderful Kentucky scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. The starting point is not too far from Lexington-Fayette, as you can see on the road map further down. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Brumfield Lane to 1268 Bridge stretch is one of them. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Kentucky   you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. There's camping available near Hickman Creek. Briefly about the general area: The warmest time of the year at Hickman Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. Through the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 60's. All through the winter highs are in the 30's; night lows at Hickman Creek all through the winter typically sink into the 20's. Hickman Creek is a rather wet place regularly with a good deal of rain; through the month of May you get the most rain around here while October is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
