The Kentucky 1541 to Elm Fork Road stretch of Hickman Creek in Kentucky is 4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The starting location is a short drive from Lexington-Fayette, as you can see on the road map further down. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels     fill up quick. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. The scenic beauty of Jessamine County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There's camping available near Hickman Creek. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Briefly about the general area: Through the months of summer at Hickman Creek temperatures are generally in the 80's while night lows are usually in the 60's. All through the wintertime highs are mostly in the 30's, and after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at Hickman Creek drop into the 20's.
