Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Kentucky tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The scenic beauty of Laurel County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. Whitewater paddling here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great experience. There are no other sections to paddle along Laurel River than the Below Laurel River Lake section. This is a bit of a short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. There
are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The Below Laurel River Lake section of Laurel River in Laurel County is 2 miles long and is a class II-III(IV)
section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Corbin, as you can see on the road map further down. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: Laurel River is a pretty wet place frequently with a large amount of rain; most of the
rain falls through May while October is regularly the driest month. Go for a hike on the Sheltowee Trace Trail, and Long Bend is something you shouldn't miss since you're here. Man, is there plenty of fun stuff to do in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. Don't leave Laurel River
without first going for a hike along the Bark Camp Trail. Summer at Laurel River arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 60's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Laurel River.
