The starting location is a short drive from Corbin, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch of Laurel River is 2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III(IV) section. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from
the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This section is quite short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an
area with plenty of spots for that. The river winds through the Cumberland Plateau Mountains and you get great scenery. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The scenic beauty of Kentucky and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. The Below Laurel River Lake stretch is the only paddling stretch along Laurel River.

month of May is the wettest with most of the rain; October on the other hand is the driest. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Sheltowee Trace Trail, and you need to visit Long Bend if you're here. Through the long summer days highs here at Laurel River reach the 80's
while night lows are regularly in the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's, and during the dark hours in the wintertime at Laurel River temperatures drop to the 20's.
