River in Kentucky is 10.3 miles long and it is classified as a class III section by American Whitewater. Whitewater paddling here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great experience. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have
reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are no other sections to paddle along Red River than the Kentucky 746 to Kentucky 715 section. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too.
Briefly about the general area: Red River mostly gets a great deal of precipitation; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month is October. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Red River
with night lows in the 60's. During the wintertime the highs are usually in the 40's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Red River. And that's not all the things you can do here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. Going for a hike along the Rock Bridge Trail will
