White Oak Junction to Big South Fork of Cumberland River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III(IV) 6 miles
If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. The nature scenery of McCreary County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This section of Rock Creek is 6 miles long and is a class II-III(IV) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This is the only paddling section along Rock
Creek. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. If you're coming from Somerset it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater paddling here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great
experience. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places for that around here. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
