This stretch of Tygarts Creek in Carter County is 12.2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The nature scenery of Carter County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are
quite easy. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camp stove. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number
of other places. The campgrounds here at Tygarts Creek are pretty good. Tygarts Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Olive Hill to Kentucky 182 section is the only one. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
