This section of Bear in Maine is 6.8 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. The beautiful scenery of Maine and the water flowing gracefully down Bear will make you feel great. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. The Devils Horseshoe stretch is the only paddling stretch along Bear. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking
in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations
in advance you're all set. The river winds through the White Mountains and you get great scenery.
Briefly about the general area: Bear gets a common amount of rain; during the month of August you get the most rain around here; February meanwhile is the driest month. You just can't envision the amount of outdoors fun stuff the White Mountains has to offer. Going for a hike along the Old Speck Mountain Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region; a journey to Bear wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Screw Auger Falls.
This river is so wonderful. Hiking along the Table Rock Trail is brilliant fun. At Bear through the warm days of summer highs are in the 70's with overnight lows in the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Bear are in the 0's. Mother Walker Falls Gorge is a pleasant spot to stop at close by, and you need to check out Lightning Ledge if you're here.
