The Devils Den to Ellis River section of Black Brook in Oxford County is 4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V+ section. The beautiful scenery of Maine and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. When you're paddling down a White Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking
outside Maine you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Devils Den to Ellis River stretch is the only paddling stretch
along Black Brook. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places.
