The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Maine are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This section of Black Brook is 4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V+ section. The beauty of the White Mountains is a great plus for this river. There
are no other sections to paddle along Black Brook than the Devils Den to Ellis River section. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here.
The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: Silver Ripple Cascade is a beautiful place to go to while you're at Black Brook, and the Angel Falls Trail is a perfect hiking trail close by. All through the warm months at Black Brook highs are typically in the 70's. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 50's. For the duration of the wintertime highs are commonly in the 20's; throughout the dark hours in the wintertime
at Black Brook temperatures drop to the-10's. And if that's not enough there's a lot more enjoyable stuff to do in the White Mountains. Black Brook gets a normal amount of annual rain; the wettest month of the year is regularly August, that's the one that rains the most; February is when it's the driest.
