  Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Maine tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The Carrabasset to Kingfield section of Carrabasset is 10 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-IV section. The natural beauty of Franklin County and the water flowing gracefully down Carrabasset are reasons enough to come here and paddle.
    For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. No shortage of good hotels, but if you donít have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The starting point is not too far from Augusta-Waterville, if
you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Carrabasset to Kingfield section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come.

Briefly about the general area:
You're sure to encounter some nice folks from New Portland
 
here, and hiking along the Arnolds Trail is magnificent fun. If you like skiing, you're in luck; Sugarloaf USA is near Carrabasset, and do take a hike on the Fire Warden Trail. This river is a great place to visit. For the period of the days of summer here at Carrabasset, high temperatures mostly reach the 70's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's; overnight lows at Carrabasset through the wintertime commonly sink into the 0's. Carrabasset gets a typical amount of precipitation. The month with most of the snow is November, and the driest month is February.
