Maine whitewater - Cathance River, Sagadahoc County
Sagadahoc
county,
US 201 to Cathance Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-III 2.5 miles
Fun short spot, We made it a overnight trip and had a good old time. There needs to be a bunch of water in this stream to even make it doable. on 4/20 we were scooting-ass over many shallow spots in our yaks. Fun drops with laziness inbetween make for a good time especially for the novice. Says John
Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Maine is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The wonderful Sagadahoc County scenery and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come
here to paddle. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Cathance River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the US 201 to Cathance Road stretch is the only one. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds
nearby. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. If you're coming from Lewiston-Auburn it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This section of Cathance River is 2.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section.
