This stretch of Cathance River in Sagadahoc County is 2.5 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Maine is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available
very near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This stretch is short so no need to bring snacks. There are no other sections to paddle along Cathance River than the US 201 to Cathance Road section. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Lewiston-Auburn,
as you can see on the road map further down. The beautiful scenery of Maine and the water flowing gracefully down Cathance River will make you feel great.
Briefly about the general area: A day at Thomas Point Beach in the vicinity of Cathance River is time well spent. Cathance River mostly gets lots of precipitation; the wettest month of the year is generally November, that's the one that rains the most, and September meanwhile is the driest month. All through the long summer days at Cathance River highs are commonly in the 80's. Through
the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 60's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 20's with temperatures at Cathance River dipping down into the 10's through winter nights.
