Fun short spot, We made it a overnight trip and had a good old time. There needs to be a bunch of water in this stream to even make it doable. on 4/20 we were scooting-ass over many shallow spots in our yaks. Fun drops with laziness inbetween make for a good time especially for the novice. Says John
The put-in location is a short drive from Lewiston-Auburn, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The scenic beauty of Maine and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Great exercise and a
chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The US 201 to Cathance Road stretch is the only
paddling stretch along Cathance River. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good spots for that around here. This stretch of Cathance River in Sagadahoc County is 2.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section. For all you camping people there are campgrounds
nearby.
Briefly about the general area: Nothing beats kicking back at Thomas Point Beach. Cathance River sees pretty high levels of rain; the month with most of the rain is November, and September is when it's the driest. The warmest time of the year brings highs in
the 80's to Cathance River, and all through the night it cools down to the 60's. All through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 20's, and during the dark hours in the winter at Cathance River temperatures dip to the 10's.
