Maine whitewater - Cathance Stream, Washington County

Washington county, Lake Cathance to Dennysville section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-V     18 miles

I am a local of the Cathance Stream area. Stoddards Rips and Ayers Rips have no affiliation with Cathance Stream. These rips are on the Dennys River and would require an entirely different trip all together. In all of my years living here, (37) I have never heard of anyone traveling to this area soley to canoe or kayak Cathance Stream. There are several portages not mentioned above (fishways, deep drops with ledge, dams!! etc.!!!) that everyone should be made aware of. Says Bill Robinson

This section of Cathance Stream in Maine is 18 miles long and
is a class I-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Maine is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The scenic beauty of Maine and the water flowing gracefully
down Cathance Stream attract people from near and far. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. There are no other sections to paddle along Cathance Stream than the Lake Cathance to Dennysville
section.
