The scenic beauty of Oxford County and the water flowing gracefully down Crooked River make the trip here worthwhile. The Albany to North Waterford section of Crooked River is 9 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Albany to North Waterford section is just one of them. The river winds through the White Mountains
and you get great scenery. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than
in other states, so don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: Going for a hike on the Albany Brook Trail is always a fine adventure, and there are great spots to look at along the Albany Mountain Trail. The amount of precipitation that falls at Crooked River is close to the national average; August is the wettest month with most rain, and
February is when it's the driest. Now, you may believe that's heaps but there's even more fun things to do here in the White Mountains. For the duration of the summer months at Crooked River highs are typically in the 70's. Summer nighttime lows dip down to the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Crooked River are in the-10's.
